SCHOOL VISION:
District Goals as
stated in the Comprehensive School Improvement Plan:
II. What will we do
to meet student-learning needs?
District Long-Range
Goals:
5. All students will
experience a safe and productive learning environment
We will also compile data
and analyze it, based on the goals of the PBIS committee and compare the data
to the goals those goals. We will
work collaboratively to revise the action plan and reset goals, to meet the
needs of students, and develop strategies in order to decrease the number of
disciplinary actions and tardies.
The other goals linked to student achievement will also play a role in
newly revised activities towards the successful implementation of PBIS, while
increasing students’ achievement and overall sense of community at our school.
My site supervisor and I
will collaborate by meeting and conferring about data and results and
interpretation of the data for the school. This might be done by blog as well.
Then, we will produce new
wonderings from results and try to draw conclusions and answers that will
target data-driven decisions that will most likely be implemented and will help
us gather more data about current implementation of PBIS and most likely will
lead into further discussions, about current intervention programs as well,
such as At-Risk. As far as,
sharing my findings, the details about that process can be found in Part 4
below.
Sharing results:
In order to share my findings for
my action research project, I will make sure to include the four critical tasks
outlined by (Dana, 2009):
1) Providing
background information
2) Sharing
the designing of the inquiry (Procedures, Data Collection, and Data Analysis)
3) Stating
the learning and supporting statements with data
4) Providing
concluding thoughts
This will most likely be done in the beginning in by writing a report
and sharing it with my site supervisor, who will then analyze it, and develop
new wonderings related to the current implementation of PBIS, then if
significant findings are found, we will develop other plans of inquiry and
gather more data and analyze it, to try to reach concluding ideas and thoughts
about the implementation of PBIS at its success and needs for revision.
If significant findings are found then these will be communicated to the
PBIS committee and through collaboration we will develop revisions and plans
for revision in order to remodel our implementation strategies to best meet the
needs of the school and its constituents.
If new implementation is needed, I might use a Power Point presentation
of some kind to share our findings, and implement the revisions during a staff
development.

4. Iowa Assessment Scores
After assessing this data, with the

I think your plan sounds good. It's always good to track the results of a program. After you revise the current PBIS plan, will you compare your new data to your old data to see if your changes were successful? And if they are not will you have a backup plan?
ReplyDeleteYes, after using the Care model I have updated some methods into evaluating our progress.
ReplyDeleteOverall, this data will be collected annually from parent, teacher, student survey data, as well as, Power School data. We will monitor the data annually, and use it to revise the implementation of PBIS on targeted areas that the data shows us, and compare to the previous years' data.
The back-up plan, will be determined once the data is analyzed, to note whether there was improvement or not?
Thank you for the comment.
Noah,
ReplyDeleteGreat research plan. Well thoughtout and detailed. I have 1 question-What does PBIS stand for? You might want to look at Benchmarks and assessments, I think that column refers to ways you will be assessing the effectiveness of PBIS. If you would like, take a look at my blog http://dforrest301.blogspot.com, I used the same format and patterened after our Campus Improvement Plan. Look forward to following your progress and seeing your results.
Thank you Deborah!
ReplyDeleteI checked it out, and will comment on it as well.
PBIS stands for positive behavior support intervention and its goals and intentions can be found on this website.
I live in Iowa, and many of our schools are implementing it.
Here is the IL site for it:
http://www.pbisillinois.org
It is the foundation for creating a culture and community at school, that should eventually lead to increased student achievement in theory.
We receive IS3 grant money to implement it, and it is supposed to drive data-driven decision-making for our school.
As far as the Benchmarks and assessments, I will definitely change those.
I think I was a bit confused on that category.
Cheers!
This is a great research project and I don't think you are going to need a backup plan although good to have one. I think what you are doing is going to show you increased student achievement. What specifically does PBIS implement? Also, are you doing entire population at jr./sr. high school? I think that would be the way to go, to see true behavior modification. Otherwise some could slip off the wagon when seeing others not following the model. I am interested in seeing how this project turns out. Good luck with it!
ReplyDeleteYour plans are very thorough and well planned out. I've read over the comments as well and will agree with those recommended changes. This is a good area of research, behavior seems to be a problem in these upcoming generations and it is definitely affecting academics.
ReplyDeleteI also think your plan is very well thought out but I also wondered what does PBIS implement? And will you use your program on a certain grade level or the whole school at large? I also think that the whole school will benefit from this program so you can compare apples to apples fairly. Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI have decided to look at the data for the whole school, so Jr/Sr. high school overall.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the comments everyone!
They were very helpful!
As far as what PBIS implements: it is a program that implements, expectations for common areas such as the lunch room, bathrooms, hallways, etc. and the classroom. We have Falcon cards that we pass out for students displaying behaviors that model our school motto: Be Respectful, Act Responsibly, and influence others to do the same." They turn these in for pencils/candy in the office, and every quarter we have a drawing for big ticket prizes: X-box 360, iPads, etc. The students appreciate be recognized for modeling the expectations of the school. IT creates a culture in many ways in the school, and a common language used by teachers and staff members. It allows students to have an impact on school functions, it is incorporated in a community day of action, in which students go out and do community projects for the neighborhood, in the surrounding communities.
ReplyDeleteThis is the short version of all that it implements.
I hope this helps.
